SELECTION

Please choose a suitable type and grade chain for your motorcycle from the RK application chart on the RK Global website. Please note that this chart only refers to unmodified machines.
RK Global website: http://global.rk-japan.co.jp

If your motorcycle came with a sealed-ring chain of any type (O-Ring, RX-Ring, XW-Ring, etc.) it should always be replaced with a chain of equal or better type and grade. Do not use non-sealed chain if your motorcycle came stock with a sealed chain.

INSTALLATION

We recommend that a qualified motorcycle mechanic install your new RK Chain. It is necessary for the connecting link and chain to be correctly installed for safety performance. Whether your chain cam with a Rivet Type or Clip Type connecting link, it must be properly installed. An improperly installed chain is very dangerous! You mush use the connecting link that comes with the chain or purchase an RK brand connecting link for the same model and pitch.

Check your owner's manual for correct type of chain, connecting link, tension adjustment, and alighment. An overly tightened chain will strees the chain and sprockets and can cause premature wear. An overly loose chain can whip, surge, and eventually break. The correct connecting link must be used with its corresponding chain model and size. Incorrect use and application will cause chain failure and possible harm to rider and machine.

RIVET INSTALLATION

Rivet Type is RK's recommended connecting link for RK Sealed-Ring Chain. Do no attempt Rivet Link installation without a rivet tool. Follow the instructions of the press-fit rivet tool you are using.

CLIP INSTALLATION

Do not use vise grips. Use a press-fot tool to install a Clip Type connecting link. Seat the clip securely in the pin's groove, then back out the side plate so that it is tight against the clip. This creates a tension seat between the clip and the side plate. The closed end of the clip must face the rotational direction of the chain. A new connecting link should be used if you re-install the chain. Never re-use a connecting link.

MAINTENANCE

CLEANING: Regardless if the chain is sealed or non-sealed, all chains require maintenance and lubrication. For off-road use, clean and lube the chain after every ride. For sealed chain street use, clean and lube the chain every 300 miles (500 km) or whenever the chain gets dirty. For non-sealed chain street use, clean and lube the chain every 200 miles (300 km). You should clean the chain with a mineral oil based cleaner and a soft cloth to remobe excess dirt and grit between the link plates and roller surfaces. Do not use gasoline, kerosene, brake cleaner or any cleaner that contains acid, or caustic chemicals to maintain your chain!

Do not use coarse brushes or caustic solvents to clean a sealed chain, as they could damage the rubber seals. Avoid steam cleaning, high pressure water, and solvents on both sealed and non-sealed chains. These actions can contaminate the internal lubricant which can cause premature chain wear.

LUBRICATION

All RK Motorcycle Chains come pre-lubricated from the factory with grease specially injected into the internal surfaces. Keeping the chain clean and generously lubricated with a quality chain lube will ensure the long life and performance of the chain. Many aerosol lubricant contain corrosive chemicals that are harmful to chain seals and the environment. If your chain is sealed, be sure to use an O-Ring safe chain lubricant.
